🌱 What Gardening Taught Me About Growing Before I Was Ready

There’s something poetic—and mildly unhinged—about gardening season showing up before I feel emotionally, mentally, or logistically ready for it.
Every spring, I tell myself this year will be different. I’ll have a plan. A vibe. A planting schedule that doesn’t include panic-sowing lettuce at midnight.
Spoiler: I never have the plan. I always have the panic lettuce.
And still—I grow.

Readiness Is a Myth (And Also, Overrated)
You know how people say “you have to be ready to grow”?Yeah, that’s cute and all, but completely false.
Growth doesn’t wait until you’ve got the right tools, the perfect routine, or the emotional bandwidth of a woodland fairy.
Growth shows up anyway.
In plants. In life. In the weird, wonderful moment where you plant something—anything—because you need to believe it’ll root.
🪴 Lessons from the Dirt
Here’s what gardening keeps teaching me (even when I don’t feel “ready”):
1. Growth is not linear.
Some seeds sprout in days. Some take weeks. Some take you googling “why isn’t this damn thing growing” at 2AM.
Just like us, plants move on their own timeline. Some seasons are fast and full. Others are slow, silent, deep-in-the-dirt kinds of seasons. Both are valid. Both are growth.
2. You don’t need perfect conditions.
Listen, my setup is 30% strategy and 70% “for fuck sakes.” You don’t need a greenhouse, grow lights, or your sh*t together to get started. You need some dirt, a little light, and a plenty of grace for yourself.
3. You’re allowed to learn while doing.
I’ve killed more plants than I’ve kept alive. (I say this with love and also a bit of shame.)But every wilt, every root rot moment, every “oh sh*t I forgot to water you for 10 days”—those are lessons.
And the more I leaned into imperfection, the more I actually learned. Not just about plants, but about myself.

DIY Grow Was Built for This
This exact messy, hopeful, deeply human energy? That’s what inspired me to build the DIY Grow Program.
It’s not a “how to grow perfect plants” course. It’s a “let’s try this together and see what happens” journey.
For the chaotic, the curious, the ones who are still learning to trust themselves with life—plant life or otherwise.
It launches this month. I’m teaching it live in two weeks. It’s for you if you’ve ever whispered “please don’t die” to a seed tray… and meant it metaphorically, too.
🌼 Final Thought: Just Start
You don’t have to be ready. You just have to start. And if it grows? Amazing. If it fails? You learned.
Either way—you’re doing it. And that counts.
Here’s to planting messy beginnings and growing anyway.
